25th anniversary membership-drive successful

The past 2 weeks another 45 cities have joined Mayors for Peace. Thus, the Conference involves 1,982 cities in 126 countries and regions around the world. Membership continues to be consolidated in Europe which counts 1,364 members or 68,81% in 41 European countries.
With Copenhagen its recent new membership it is remarkable is that today 20 out of the 27 capitals of the EU have membership. When you look to the members of the Coucil of Europe 29 of the total of 48 European states are a member of Mayors for Peace. Following Mayors are Members Mayors for Peace in EU member states: Austria, Vienna; Belgium, Brussels; Bulgaria, Sofia; Denmark, Copenhagen; France, Paris; Germany, Berlin; Greece, Athens; Hungary, Budapest; Ireland, Dublin; Italy, Rome; Latvia, Riga; Lithuania, Vilnius; Luxembourg, Luxembourg City; Malta, Valletta; Netherlands, Amsterdam; Portugal, Lisbon; Slovenia, Ljubljana; Spain, Madrid; Sweden, Stockholm and United Kingdom, London. Following nine European Mayors in non-EU capitals. Here we use the membership for the Council of Europe, plus Belarusia which is not a member: Armenia, Yerevan; Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo; Belarus, Minsk; Georgia, Tblisi; Moldova, Chisina; Russian Federation, Moscow; Switzerland, Bern; Turkey, Ankara and Ukraine, Kiev.
Asia counts 216 members or almost 11% in 29 countries. North-America counts 192 members (9,6%) in 11 countries, while Africa has 106 members (5%) in 28 countries. Oceania has 81 members (4%) in 8 countries. Finally South-America counts 23 members (1%) in 9 countries.
In 2008 we want to have more outreach outside Europe. For this we also plan to translate outreach materials (website, Electronic magazine, ...) in French and Spanish. This should help us to consolidate membership and activities in Africa and South-America.
