German mayors call for withdrawal US nuclear weapons

August 6, 2006

The Mayors of Mutlangen – where Pershing was based in the 1980s – and Schwäbisch Gmünd jointly published a declaration criticising the passage pertaining to nuclear weapons in the draft White Book of the German Federal Government. “We view with concern the fact that in the draft White Book German nuclear sharing is to continue indefinitely. This contradicts the disarmament imperative“ wrote the Mayors.

“As Mayors of places where disarmament became a reality, we demand from our government and our MPs, that they no longer tolerate the deployment of nuclear weapons in Germany, nor do they make delivery systems available for nuclear weapons or let German soldiers train for their use. Germany must give up nuclear sharing and become nuclear weapon-free.”
